Sai Ram
With Pranams at the Lotus Feet of Bhagavan,
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
What's the best way to maintain good relations with siblings, both younger and older?
Mrs. Kamaraju: Do you love your sister and brother? Then automatically, when you love them, you will have good relations with them. When you love Swami, you will have good relations with Swami. When you love your parents, you will have a good relationship with your parents. When you love your teacher, you will have good relations with your teacher. For everything, love is the root cause. Love is the primary factor. You must develop that love towards everything and everyone.
Anil Kumar: Right, right, I understand your problem. When there is only a single restroom, you fight with siblings because of the time factor when you go to school in the morning. But even when you do homework, there is some fighting, like the pencils or pens are not shared—your siblings use your pens and you use their pens. It is normal
I will tell you how to love siblings—learn to share. You have two pencils, so give them one pencil. But don't take one pencil from your sister in order to have three pencils. It is not necessary. By giving and sharing, you get closer to siblings.
Suppose your sister is a singer and you are a singer. If you feel proud of this—my sister sings well and she plays on the harmonium nicely—when you feel proud of them, you won't fight.
Why are there hurricanes and natural disasters? How can Baba stop all the calamities happening around the world?
Mrs. Kumaraju: The calamity comes from nature, like the tsunami. Swami is God. Swami has laid down certain rules and regulations that we must follow. Just like you must follow all the laws in life, you cannot violate the laws of nature either. Just like a student must follow the teacher, and not break the rules, the same applies to God’s natural laws also. There are certain limits. When the laws of nature are broken, such calamities may happen.
When I look at my family, I see they have lots of faith in God. I am not sure that I have faith in God. How do I get more faith?
Anil Kumar: How do you know that you don't have faith? If you didn't have faith, you wouldn't be here! Are you here or not? Yes! That is faith, Hari Om. You must have faith in yourself—first there is some belief and faith, then finally comes complete belief. You must have trust in God and in your parents. Faith does not mean making an exhibition; faith is inside. It's not available in any mall or shop. Faith is not sold at 20% off or 30-50% off. Faith is not for sale. Is that clear?
How does God know if you are speaking to Him? How does He know if you are asking Him in your mind? How does God listen to everyone at the same time?
Anil Kumar: If I am here, I should hear you and or you should hear me, right? But when He is inside, who hears whom? So He is inside everybody. God is inside everybody. That’s how He hears everything.
If Baba visits different countries and He speaks only one language, how does He know what language to speak?
Mrs. Kamaraju: One day I was translating His book. In His book, it is written that Swami knows so many languages. But I had my own doubts. I doubted it, but then I kept quiet. Recently, Swami gave an interview to our family. In the interview, my daughter and myself and many other devotees were present. Swami came to me. In front of me, there were many Russian devotees. He came speaking to me in some foreign language. Then He went to a Russian lady but was looking at me. Only then I understood that it was for me. That’s how He clarified my doubt. Then I understood that Swami knows so many languages. He knows the language of the heart.
One foreign lady came from Argentina. She did not know any other language. She was communicating with her friends in sign language. She came to our house and I asked her how she was able to communicate with the people. She said Swami was guiding her from within, that was how she was able to live in Puttaparthi. He is the indweller. He knows everything, whatever happens here, there or anywhere in the whole world.
Anil Kumar: Two devotees are sitting side by side. One fellow is from North India and only knows Hindi. The other fellow knows Oriya which is spoken in the state of Orissa. Swami came and stood in front of the boy who spoke Hindi. He was asking and replying in Hindi, so the dialogue was going on in Hindi. But this Oriya boy started giving the answers!
When I talk to you, you give a reply, right? But if the Oriya boy gave the answers, what did that mean? After this, Swami left. The Hindi boy said to the other boy, "Hey, when Swami is talking to me, why should you open your mouth? Why? He is talking to me in Hindi. And why do you speak in the Oriya language?” The Oriya boy said, “You are fool number one. Swami was speaking in Oriya only!” So, the Oriya fellow heard the Oriya version, while the Hindi fellow heard the Hindi version. That is Baba. Understood? Am I clear?
I heard that the curls on Baba's hair represent the number of devotees Baba has. Is that true?
Anil Kumar: Hair multiplied by millions and millions, okay? Are you interested in hair, perhaps?
Mrs. Kamaraju: The hair is so powerful. If devotees are able to get even a small strand of hair, they will keep it and preserve it. Regarding the power of His hair, once Swami said to one close devotee that He wanted to pull out a strand of hair; but His hand was badly burned just as if it touched fire. That’s what Swami said on one occasion.
Anil Kumar: Hair is electricity, hair is magnetic, and hair is tied to you and to me. But to Him, it is a force. Clear?
When you are speaking, what's your major fear? Do you have stage fright? Do you have any major fears?
Anil Kumar: Major fears? I don't have minor fears or major fears. Why fear? (Anil Kumar sings the song, “Why Fear When I Am Here?”) What is that song?
Everyone (sings): When I am here.
Anil Kumar: So why should I have fear?
How do you get to be Swami's student?
Anil Kumar: Study well and then you can be His student. Study well, apply, take the entrance examination and love Swami. Then you will be a student.
What is the true form of God?
Anil Kumar: Very good. Even elders do not ask that question! The quality of these Balvikas is great. Good! What is the form of air? In a balloon, the form of air is that of the balloon. In a bicycle tyre, the air is the form of the tyre. So, air takes on the form of the vessel it is contained in. It has no form by itself. But when it is pumped into a balloon, it has the shape of a balloon. When it is pumped into a bicycle tyre, it has the form of the tyre. But air has no form by itself. Clear?
Is it possible for parents to be wrong about what they want for you?
Anil Kumar: It is not up to you to decide. It is wrong to say parents are wrong. Let's not say parents are wrong.
Mrs. Kamaraju: But one thing: parents may be wrong on any other occasion, but towards their children they won’t be wrong at any time. They love their children so much.
Is it necessary to have love?
Anil Kumar: It's not necessary; however your mother serves you lunch packets, dinner, coffee, and that which you want. Is it necessary to have lunch? Is it necessary to have dinner? Your mother serves you a lot. Why? Because she loves you. So love is necessary. Mother serves the child, and child loves the mother. That love is bondage. A simple example: one brick then another brick—both bricks should be together. So what should be in between? Cement. Bricks are the individuals, while cement is love. Love binds the bricks, that is, the individuals. It is something like adhesive, gum or cheese in a sandwich.
Swami has said that He will reincarnate as Prema Sai. When will that happen? Is that true?
Anil Kumar: Why are you in a hurry? Take time. Don't worry. There is still time. Somebody asked me when Kali Yuga will end. I said you are not going to live that long, don't worry.
Is it true that when people are being nice, nice things will happen to them?
Anil Kumar: Yes. A simple example: I put my hand into fire. What will happen? It will get burned. Or I put ice on my hand. What will happen? It will feel cold. I thump on the desk. What happens here? You get the sound and the pain. Good actions lead to good results, while bad actions create bad results. That’s all. Life is a matter of reaction, reflection and resound. Clear?
Do you have to be in the front line to get Baba’s blessings?
Anil Kumar: No, it is not necessary. Is it necessary to be close to the sun to receive sunlight? Sunlight falls on everybody. It is not necessary to sit on the edge of the sun.
Mrs. Kamaraju: You need not sit in the front line; you can sit at the back or in the 20th line or the 15th line. Swami will definitely look at you. His vibrations spread to the entire group of people sitting there. But you must be ‘tuned’ into Him; your concentration must be on God. Only then will you feel His vibrations. Even when you are sitting in the first line, Swami sometimes doesn't look at you. You cannot receive His vibrations unless you are tuned into that atmosphere. If Swami is coming and you are talking or thinking of something else, then you don’t feel any of His vibrations. If you are sitting at the back thinking about when Swami will come, to whom He will speak, and so on—when you are watching carefully and observing Swami—you will definitely get His vibrations even though you are sitting at the back. Sometimes, even if we are sitting in the front, He might ignore us and go to the other side. That is also possible. So many times that has happened.
If you are watching TV and Swami sends you a message, how will you receive it? If my neighbour is also watching the same channel, why do both of us not receive the same message?
Mrs. Kamaraju: Not only through TV, but through curtains, through chairs, through wires too you can get a message; that has also been my experience. If you are tuned to Him, If He wants you to receive a message, you will receive it.
Anil Kumar: A simple example: A wooden chair is a chair made of wood. An iron chair is a chair made of iron. Two fellows are sitting on their respective chairs. Both put their fingers in the electric plug point; both of them touch the electrical wires. Who will get the shock? The one on the iron chair. Why not the one on the wooden chair? Both of them touched the wires, but one fellow gets the shock, while the other fellow does not. That is because wood will not permit the flow of electricity. Similarly, if you are on a wooden chair—that means without understanding, without love—the current of grace will not flow and so His vibrations cannot be felt. On the other hand, if you are on an iron chair—meaning full of love and devotion—you will get all His vibrations.
What is the main purpose of the world?
Anil Kumar: What is the main purpose of laughing? The cuckoo bird sings, so what is the purpose? The flower opens? What is its purpose? Purpose is business. Purposelessness is God. Understood?
Does Baba have a soul? Does God have a spirit?
Mrs. Kamaraju: God is the universal soul. He is in me, in you, and in everybody.
Anil Kumar: You are an individual soul. A simple example: see the lights (pointing up), here is electricity. There (pointing elsewhere) also is electricity. Do you think electricity is here only? Where is electricity? Electricity is everywhere. That is Baba! This bulb has electricity, so it is like the individual soul. But electricity is everywhere; that is like the cosmic soul, which is Baba. Understood?
Why doesn't everybody in the world follow the five human values?
Anil Kumar: Why doesn't everybody in class study? All are children. Only some study, while others do not study. Why? Some are mischievous, some are not. Why? They are like that. Some don’t follow the studies, some do. That's natural. Like that, some do not know the value of values. Suppose I have a gold ring. I know the value of the ring. Do I leave it lying around like that? (He takes his ring off and leaves it on the table.) Do I go away? No. This is valuable. If I know its value, I will keep it on. If I don't know its value, I will not keep it on. Some people do not follow the values because they do not know the value of values. Clear?
In your speech this morning, you said that meditation is our life. My mother wants me to do meditation daily. What should I do?
Anil Kumar: Is your mom here? Don't worry, I will talk to her also. You see, you meditate to taste what mediation is. When you taste a sample of meditation, your whole life becomes meditation, understood? A spoon of sugar, eating pie, or drinking a milkshake—if you like it, you want to eat the whole thing. Similarly, the meditation at home that your mom wants you to do is like that—to have a taste of it in the beginning. Later, all of life becomes meditation. Am I clear?
How was God born? Why should He be born and come?
Anil Kumar: Here is a plate. Put rice pudding on it. How do you eat it? You need a spoon, right? Or else how can you eat? Similarly, God takes birth for our understanding, for our use. He takes human form. Why should God come? He comes in order to be close to you, to establish contact with you, to give you the joy of nearness.
One thing I must add: I have not seen children pose such intelligent questions as I have here. Very good! I should also add that the quality of your questions has been far better than some of the questions coming from many of the adults. The credit goes to the Balvikas teachers and to the education wing!
